January 28 - Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida

Rose and Jenn at New Orleans School of Cookimg

Rose showing no interest in eating
frog legs at Stanley’s.

Our campground was in Picayune, MS.

We didn’t realize our site was
lakefront, at least for a few days.

Fog. Need I say more.

Clouds that we never see in Alaska.

New Orleans, LO

Cafe du Monde in New Orleans. Coffee,
Hot cocoa and beignets.

Rainy day in New Orleans.
Leaving Cafe du Monde.

Cathedral and museum.

Jenn and Ken

French Quarter

At cooking school, watching demo.
We learned how to make gumbo,
jambalaya, and pralines.

Foggy again

Waterfront campsite in MS. One of those
campgrounds that look better at night.
Trees were lovely.

Passing through Alabama.

Rose and Buc’ee

We are now in Florida until mid-March.

After Rose learns about the new state
we are in, she puts the state sticker on our map.
She really wants to go to Hawaii in the camper.

Weather in Florida. Tornado watch never
became a warning. Thank God.

From my friend Erica. Thank you!

Staying dry at trampoline park in a
Panama City Beach.

Ken opted out of jumping.

Panama City Beach, Florida.
Breezy and 58.

LO - Louisiana. We didn’t stay in LO but returned to visit New Orleans from Mississippi.
MS - Mississippi. We stayed in Picayune.
AL - Alabama. We didn’t stay in AL but headed to Florida.
FL - Florida. We are here until mid-March.

After Houston we headed to Picayune, Mississippi. It is located an hour north of New Orleans. Upon arrival the campground staff didn’t mention that they shut off the water for repairs earlier that afternoon but we did get it back later that evening, until it was off again for the night. Thankfully we were prepared with a full fresh water tank. Thank you, Ken.

The produce selection was quite terrible at the store which my friend Tracy says can happen in the south. Just seems strange that we get better produce in Alaska, albeit three times more expensive. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen such small blueberries.

Jenn signed up for a noon CrossFit class but found out it had cancelled when a young man in a red truck across the street yelled “The class was cancelled. I was here for it too.” Thankfully a later session worked out. No pun intended. Many of the barbells were rusty due to the very high humidity in this area. Rose was happy that I signed her up for two private lessons at a gym where she successfully performed a back handspring from a flat mat for the first time, not a trampoline. She was very excited!

We drove an hour to New Orleans in VERY heavy rain to attend a Creole cooking demo class (Jenn and Rose) while Ken went to a museum, cathedral, and the Beignet Cafe.

After Mississippi we headed to Panama City Beach, Florida. The Sun Outdoors campground is very nice with two pools and a hot tub, clubhouse, pickleball courts, and three laundry rooms. One is 25 steps from our front door but who’s counting. Convenient. I was able to bike before the thunderstorm yesterday and rode 15 miles. A lovely ride but very windy and of course head wind on the way back.

Today we went to the beach which was a 5 minute drive. The sand is white with the consistency of light brown sugar. Rose dig a very deep hole and still didn’t hit water. It was only 58 degrees so don’t let the beautiful photos deceive you.

We are here until Tuesday then heading south to Clearwater.

Thank you for the prayers for safety, health and all the things. ❤️
PS Abby has As in her college classes. Yay.
