April 21 - Cleveland, South Carolina and Rodanthe, North Carolina

One of the four leaf clovers
that Rose found.

Ken and Rose playing in the creek
and discovering bamboo at
our South Carolina campground.
The water was cold, but refreshing.

a lightning storm.

We hiked right before sunset.

Science lesson about mountains, hills,
plateaus, and glaciers.

What Rose saw when looking outside.

Math lesson on probability.
I was teaching Rose how the likelihood of rolling
two 6’s was extremely unlikely with one try.
And then I rolled this.

Rose and I did a tour of the Table Rock Tea
Company about 8 minutes from our
SC campground.

The tea was really great and flavorful.
And they ship to Alaska!

This is how Rose held onto the bull
for 58 seconds at the trampoline park.
She is one determined girl.

Rose on jump pad at North Carolina
campground. She loves these!

Yep, that’s Rose!

Wright Brothers National Memorial.
This was great!

rented with the Barth family in 1983

(Thanks Holly for the picture.)
(And yes that’s the Lincoln I was able to
parallel park in Pittsburgh.)

This has been a week of the Carolinas.

It was relatively hot (80s) in South Carolina this past week. Highlights included playing in the creek with bamboo, enjoying a very empty indoor trampoline park while most local kids were in school, biking, running (Ken), motorcycle ride (Ken), tea farm tour, great Indian food, going to Barnes and Noble twice (Rose loves that place), CrossFit Travelers Rest (7 sets of 3 front squats with weights resulting in me being thankful that our camper wasn’t any longer as I could barely walk two feet), a great massage the day after CrossFit, small hike to waterfalls, and more.

We had another 500 mile trek to our new spot in Rodanthe, North Carolina where the weather has been cooler and wetter except for the first few days when it was somewhat sunny and lovely. 500 is definitely a long trip when we average about 50 mph with stops.

I was able to do a very easy 25 mile bike ride in between the sound and the Atlantic Ocean on a bike path and bike lanes. Flat of course. It was awesome.

We also enjoyed a very wet and windy visit at the Wright Brothers National Memorial (WBNM) after a lovely church service at Nags Head Church. The park ranger at WBNM gave an excellent presentation that kept our attention the entire 30+ minutes. She was great.

We are here for 7 nights before heading to Virginia Beach.

Have a blessed week and thank you for the prayers.
My dad is doing great by the way. Getting stronger every day.

** Below are some stats if you are interested:

22,779 miles on truck since we left Soldotna, Alaska 8/1/23
10,944 miles on camper since we left Soldotna, Alaska 8/1/23

20 total states we have visited

  1. Thanks for sharing. The dice are classic! It looks like you could live like this forever. Wow on the stats! You’ll need to get new tires and brakes!

    1. Well we did get new trailer tires in Utah after one exploded leaving Vegas. And new rear brakes in Naples. Ken says the truck tires still have lots of life on them. So we should be good.
