May 3 - Virginia Beach, Virginia

** Going forward, new blogs will be published on Fridays since those are normally our travel days.**

Beach afternoon at Sandbridge Beach
which was 30 minutes from our campground.
Rose and Ken relaxing.

Ken and Rose at Sandbridge Beach.

Strawberry picking at Flanagan Farms.
Rose chose the perfectly shaped ones.

Rose and Jenn with our strawberries.
They were quick to pick and made a cool
SNAP sound when they were ready.

Uncle Ron and Rose playing Gaga ball.
She was impressed with his skills.

Uncle Ron and Rose on jumping pillow.
He didn’t get injured. A big yay.

Uncle Ron and Jenn.
This is my mom’s youngest brother.
He was always so fun when my sisters
and I were younger. He’s still fun!

Wow! A blue car perfect for Rose.
Blue is her favorite color.
She thought it was a little too small.

Uncle Ron, Jenn and Rose.
He came and visited us from his home an hour away.

Uncle Ron, Jenn and Ken at Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

Finally! A shell shop for Rose.
She has been looking for one for awhile.

The conch shell she has always wanted.
Thank you, Great Uncle Ron.
Now she can always hear the ocean and
think of her Great Uncle.

Scootering at nearby park.

Rose with new hairstyle and matching doll.

Jenn reunited with college roommate Sue.
She has lived in Virginia Beach since the 90s.
We had a great time reminiscing.
I’m glad to have friends who have strong memories.

It’s been a great week with hotter temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Ken is happy. I’m ready to go back to Alaska. Rose has been ready to go back since August 2nd. As you may know we’ve been on the road for 9 months with only 3 more months to go.

Ken asked if I wanted to live the Colonial Williamsburg lifestyle for a year. I said no thanks. He wants to wear breeches but I convinced him that he can wear them on his tractor in Alaska.

We spent the afternoon at Sandbridge Beach. The sand looked and felt like brown sugar. The water was cool but refreshing. Rose dug a hole and hit water. This is always a fun activity for her.

I spent a good amount of time at the heated pools and lazy river at our campground. I also did a few bike rides and Ken was able to run without dogs chasing him. Rose enjoyed the jump pad, playground, Gaga ball and other activities the campground had to offer.

CrossFit Oceana was only 4 minutes away so I did a class there which was great and uneventful meaning I could walk the next day.

Uncle Ron came to visit us from Windsor, VA and we had a lovely visit. We had the largest pizza I’ve ever seen (24 inches) and we strolled a bit at Virginia Beach Oceanfront. He played with Rose and she was very impressed with his Gaga ball skills and said he was A LOT better than boys she knows.

My college roommate Sue and I had a lovely dinner near the marina and reminisced about college days. Her 2 children are now adults and she is a proud Mimi. It was so great seeing her and now she and her husband Kenny need to come see us in Alaska.

Thank you for prayers for our health and safety and ending our journey strong. We are headed to the Washington D.C. area today.
